(January 21, 2021) Chicago, IL – Mary Pelikan, AKLD’s Senior Lighting Designer/Project Manager has received the Certified Lighting Designer (CLD) designation, the first international, evidence-based certification in architectural lighting design. Pelikan is among the first lighting designers in the world to earn the new international certification after successfully meeting a rigorous assessment process and demonstrating her proven track record of excellence.

“Mary has shown true leadership in our industry with this designation,” said Anne Kustner Haser, AKLD Lighting Design President and Design Principal. “We are proud of her dedication to her craft and to our clients as she continues to provide creative solutions in lighting design.”

From her diverse design background, Mary has the skill and experience to understand how lighting affects a space and how lighting design can successfully be incorporated into a holistic design process. Her experience in the interior or exterior built environment includes lighting for civic, corporate, education, commercial, health care, museum, contemporary and historic landmarks, residential, and retail facilities as well as developing strategic lighting solutions for cities and neighborhood streetscapes and corporate and academic campuses.

The certification process, governed by the Certified Lighting Design Commission, is designed to assess ability to operate as a lead architectural lighting designer in a professional and proficient manner by considering a person’s imaginative, technical and professional responsibility skills.

“We congratulate Mary on earning the CLD. This global benchmark of performance demonstrates her proficiency in developing, guiding and completing lighting design projects,” said David Becker, Chair of the Certified Lighting Design Commission.
